Swansea Employability Workshops

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to sign-post you to some employability workshops that will be taking place next week, as you may be thinking about what you would like to do after University or be thinking of ways that you can enhance your CV and employability status.

Next week there are a number of events taking place (as there has been throughout the semester). Next Tuesday 01/03/2016 between 10.30-16.00 Schaeffler UK Ltd will be in the Library and Information Centre Foyer to meet students. The Schaeffler group is a leading global integrated automotive and industrial supplier. If you think that this line of work may be something that you wish to consider as a career, then it might be worth meeting some of their representatives and find out about their opportunities for both students and graduates.

Secondly, have you ever considered teaching English as a professional teacher abroad? If you think that this is something you will enjoy and maybe want to consider entering into as a job then why not pop along to Keir Hardie- Room 216 on Tuesday 01/03/2016 between 17.00-18.00. The session is called English Language Training Services- Train to Teach English Abroad (CELTA). In this session the following aspects will be covered:

– How can I train as a professional English language teacher (including here in Swansea University ELTS)?

– How and where can I work as a teacher abroad?

– Will I find a job? Where?

– Is there professional summer work here in Swansea?

Swansea is also pleased to welcome back an Alumni student who studied Political Theory and Government and now works for Fidelity International, who are a privately owned, independent company that offers investment solutions and retirement expertise. Or, there is a more in-depth workshop taking place on the evening of the 3rd there will be a talk taking place in Keir Hardie between 17.00-18.00 called- A Career within Finance/Investment Management Business. This workshop will provide an illustration of how a career has evolved from being a Swansea Undergraduate to working in a major company in the financial industry.

The following areas will be covered:

– Skills and aptitude

Relevance of different degree subjects

Internship positions available

Graduate roles available.

This is targeted at all students of any discipline- but is particularly relevant to students studying Business, Finance, Economics and IT related subjects.

Finally, something that as future graduates you may find really helpful are the Assessment Centres in Fulton House, Seminar Room 2 on 03/03/2016. This is an interactive workshop aimed at helping you approach real graduate assessment centres with confidence. IT will include practical competency based activities, which care commonly used by employers as part of their graduate recruitment. In addition to an information sessions and tips on how to prepare for assessment days like this. This is something that could be really beneficial, as if you are prepared or are aware of what assessment processes require it may help you perform better on the day and really stand out to potential employers.

This is a flavour of the employability and development opportunities available at Swansea. Events take place throughout the semester, so keep checking the My Uni page and your emails because even if these events don’t grab you, there is probably something else that will!
