Stay safe during Freshers!

Whether you freshers have just moved in, about to move in, or moved in a while ago – welcome to Swansea!

The Freshers period is such an exciting time, as well as a good way to make friends and explore Swansea before lectures begin. However, it’s easy around this time to forget your boundaries and limits – especially if being peer pressured.

Here are a couple of tips from someone been thoroughly through the Freshers experience:

Avoid going alone

Freshers isn’t as fun without friends! Whether you’re going to Fresher’s Fair or Fresh & Free, it’s always better as a shared experience. Going alone to places can be risky, especially if you’re new to the Swansea area, so stay together!

Eat (and have water) before you go out!

Been there, done that, getting ‘drunker’ isn’t worth missing your dinner. Also, water is important, and having water in between alcoholic drinks eases your hangover the next day (ever so important when going out during the semester/the night before 9am lectures).

Know your points of advice/help

If you or anyone else needs a point of contact during Freshers, it’s best to find out where help or advice is available. On campus has a ton of resources, most of which the Advice & Support Centre, or MyUniHub, can direct you to.

Remember to self-care!

If you feel like the intensity of Freshers is too much, or you just want a night off, that’s okay! Not a lot of people do Freshers events every day during the two weeks, so you don’t have to feel like you’re missing out. Whatever self-care looks like to you, it’s important to give yourself a break if you need one.

Saying all that, these few weeks will be one of the most memorable experiences of your entire university life. So, enjoy every second, and welcome to Swansea! x
