Top 5 things to do in the rain

Hello all

I hope you are all well and have not been blown away too much by the storms, rain and wind thrown our way.

Over the past few weekends the weather has not been great, so this made me think as to what the best things do in the rain in Swansea would be.

I then did a bit of research and came up with 5 solutions that may be good things to do when the weather in howling down around Swansea. These are listed below:

  1. Plantasia– this is described as a great all weather attraction placed in the heart of Swansea. Plantasia is a tropical paradise situated in a unique glass pyramid which is bursting with plants and animals. This is a wonderful educational experience that is right on our doorstep in Wales. There are a number of exotic  plants and amazing animals inside including some Cotton Top Tamarin Monkeys and a Bearded Dragon. Again a great place to visit to get out of the rain.
  2. Dan yr Ogof- National Showcaves of Wales– This is an award winning attraction and consists of a 17km or 11 mile long cave system. It is located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, it is 5 miles North of Ystradgynlais and 15 miles southwest of Brecon. The Dan-yr-Ogof cave was first discovered in 1912 by the Morgan Brothers who had to use candles to light their ways and ropes to help with the climbs that they undertook. Luckily, today we can enjoy this natural wonder without any of the issues that the Morgan Brothers experienced over a hundred years ago. Some of the noticeable attractions are the ‘rasher of bacon’, the heavenly ‘angel’ and the ‘alabaster pillar’. These are just some of the beautiful rock formations that were discovered by the Morgan Brothers. Around the year there are other attractions that you can enjoy but if you want to get out and about but not get caught in the rain then why not explore some wonderful cave formations.
  3.  Play golf/ visit St Davids– located in St Davids Shopping centre in Cardiff, Treetop Adventure Golf offers the ultimate mini-golf adventure. There is an 18 hole course in two different themes- Tropical Trail and Ancient Explorer. There are quite a few different student offers as well. Once you are finished you can make the most of central Cardiff. You can enjoy some food in the restaurants, visit the shops or perhaps visit the museums. It is all undercover so you don’t have to get wet in the process.
  4. Coastal walks– this may sound a bit mad but depending on the rain and wind, it can be really refreshing to have a walk with a little wind and rain lashing in your face. My partner and I recently went to Kenfig National Nature Reserve when it was raining and a little windy. Despite the chill it was a nice walk and was actually really invigorating. I would say that to do this you will need a decent rain coat and a good pair of walking boots. Don’t be afraid to get a litte muddy either!
  5. The final thing that I like to do when it is raining is have a DVD day. This may sound incredibly boring but, one of the best weekends I have had recently entailed watching DVDs back to back with some junk food and pajamas. Sometimes it is nice to slow down and take a break from everything, especially if it is howling down outside and money may be a bit tight. This sometimes proves to be a nice change from being busy reading and doing uni work all the time.

I hope this gives you an idea of how to have fun in the rain.
