Swansea Student’s Union is the best in Wales!

best In wales

For this post I wanted to give a ‘shout out’ to the Swansea University Student’s Union. Our union have just won two awards at the NUS Wales Awards dinner.

The Union won ‘The Student Opportunities Award’ and the prestigious ‘Higher Education Students’ Union’; this makes Swansea University Students’ Union the best in Wales.

The NUS Wales awards are an annual celebration of the exceptional work that students’ union’s, officers and staff do across Wales.

Swansea University Students’ Union accepted the awards based on their extensive work in supporting students on the new Bay Campus, holding 4 referendums and for its continued mission to become an outward facing Union.

Last year the Students’ Union Advice Centre regained over £60,000 in false charges for students and spent over £400,000 employing students. The opportunities award was given to Education Officer Robiu Salisu for his hard work in creating the ‘Education Zone’ where both College reps  and Subject reps tirelessly work to improve education matters across both Swansea University Campuses

Accepting the awards at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Education Officer Robiu Salisu said

‘This year has been one of great development for the University and our Union. It is a great honour to accept these awards as they are a true testament to the hard work of the officers, staff and it’s volunteers.’

The awards follow the recent success in the National Student Survey where the Students’ Union entered the top 25% of Students Unions in the UK.

So thank you to the Student’s union for all the hard work that officers and staff put in throughout the year! Swansea is an exciting place to be and is constantly improving and evolving and the future for the University and alumni looks to be bright!
